Preheat the oven to 425 F, rub the tuna steaks with 1 tbsp olive oil and season lightly with salt and pepper.
In a skillet, saute the onion in the remaining oil until it is limp, ad the tomatoes and vermouth and cook briefly.
Place the steaks in a shallow baking dish, pour on the onion-tomato mixture, and bake 15 minutes, depending on their thickness. Sprinkle with basil.


  • 1 3/4 pounds fresh tuna steaks
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and ground pepper to taste
  • 1 large red onion
  • sliced thin
  • 4 medium tomatoes
  • peeled
  • seeded
  • and chopped
  • 1/2 cup dry vermouth
  • 1 tsp basil
  • crumbled
